The Colescott name is synonymous with Marion Giants greatness on the basketball court and beyond.
Jack Colescott, longtime teacher and coach at Marion High School, is considered one of the classiest men in Marion Giants history. He taught his players that great sportsmanship was of paramount importance, and he took two boys basketball teams to the state finals, in 1968 and 1969. He was also a coach for the 1984 state championship baseball team, and helped two other teams to the baseball state finals, in 1968 and in 1986. He was the Athletic Director who hired other coaching greats at MHS, Bill Green and Bill Beekman to name just two. Also during his time as AD, the Giants brought home two boys basketball state championships, in 1975 and '76.
And his son, David Colescott, carried on the legacy of excellence and class. He is one of the greatest athletes to play at Marion High School, most well-known for leading the boys basketball state championship teams in 1975 and '76, but also a baseball player and tennis player. He was Mr. Basketball, an Indiana All-Star, and winner of the Trester Award, the state's top athletics mental attitude award.

And the father-son duo never forgot where they came from. They are to this day some of the most consistent and caring supporters of Marion Giants athletics. In 2025 they added a new chapter to their legacy: the Jack and Dave Colescott MHSAA Scholarship Fund. Through this scholarship, they will honor today's Marion Giants who display that most-important quality: sportsmanship.
The Colescotts' generous gift created this fund, and your gift will be a welcome help to provide scholarships in perpetuity for graduating Marion High School athletes with Giant dreams to impact our world. The Jack and Dave Colescott MHSAA Scholarship will be for multi-sport athletes with stellar grades, high character, class, and a reputation for sportsmanship.
