Help connect Marion students with resources to pursue their dreams!

Honoring the legacy of two amazing women, Nellie Eltzroth and Rosalyn "Rosie" Howell.
This scholarship, named for Nellie Eltzroth and Rosalyn "Rosie" Howell and established by their descendants in their honor, provides assistance to graduating Marion Giants who plan to further education in the fields of business, marketing, or music.
Their families cherish the memories of the two women, who placed a high value on education and loved music, both playing in their high school bands. Nellie was valedictorian of her high school class, and Rosie attended Indiana Business College after high school. Their hard work, determination, and strength enabled them to advance in their careers, Nellie at an insurance agency in Van Buren and Rosie at Dana Corp. in Marion. Sadly, they were both widowed in their early 30s, and they both worked hard to provide a good life to their children.
Their sons and daughter, George Eltzroth, Don Eltzroth, Joyce Haines Eltzroth (MHS Class of 1964), and Larry Haines (MHS Class of 1960), started this scholarship fund in their memory, upon the occasion of the induction of Don and Joyce's daughter-in-law — Lori Hurst Eltzroth (MHS Class of 1989) — into the Marion High School Hall of Distinction in 2024.
Lori is a past president of the Marion High School Alumni Association, and also serves as Chair of the grants and scholarships committee. Joyce one of the founding members and a longtime board member for MHSAA.
Lori and her husband, Geoff (Class of 1985) — Don and Joyce's son — once ran a mini golf business on North Baldwin Avenue that they named Nellie & Rosie's Golf Land, in honor of the two women, Geoff's grandmothers. Now, the entire family is proud and excited to establish this fund, to help fuel the dreams of Giants today and long into the future.
